The first step in hijacking an application and to mute it is to press the hijack button. This will take hold of the application within the program, you can still use the app normally. Unless you install the instant hijack button you do have to restart the soon to be muted program. Touch icon and put the phone on silent mode, touch again and back to previous profile. Mute all (ringer, audio/video players, notifications.) except alarm. Put application shortcut on wallpaper to quick switch MUTE ON/OFF. Another good option is to add a microphone mute workflow to an automation app for your computer like Alfred for Mac or AutoHotkey for Windows. On Alfred for Mac, there are two great options. The Mic PTT workflow lets you set a system-wide hotkey to mute your Mac—so you could use perhaps your F6 button to mute your Mic.
